Miranda do Douro will be the stage, on October 20th, for an international meeting bringing together experts from Portugal and Spain to present the results of the RED CIFT project, focused on nautical-cultural itineraries.

The Municipal Auditorium of Miranda do Douro will host, on October 20th, at 10:30 AM, an international meeting dedicated to presenting the conclusions of the RED CIFT project (Iberian Network of Cross-border River Cruises). The event will gather specialists and partners from Portugal and Spain to showcase nautical-cultural itineraries along shared rivers such as the Douro, Minho, Lima, Tagus, and Guadiana.
Organized by the Iberian Association of Riverside Municipalities of the Douro (AIMRD) in collaboration with the Miranda do Douro Municipal Council, the meeting marks the conclusion of two and a half years of work in creating and enhancing sustainable nautical-cultural itineraries.
The opening session will feature welcome remarks from Helena Barril, President of the Miranda do Douro Municipal Council, alongside Jesús Rivas Rojo, Secretary-General of AIMRD, and Javier Noriega Hernández, President of the Maritime-Marine Cluster of Andalusia and project coordinator.
The choice of Miranda do Douro to host this event highlights the territory's significance along the Douro axis, a key point of cooperation between Northern Portugal and Castile and León, where natural and landscape heritage, combined with river resources, drives local economic and tourism development.
With a total investment of €816,646.61, co-financed by 75% from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2021-2027 program, the RED CIFT project has empowered regions on both sides of the border through strategic planning, vocational training, certification, and low-impact, inclusive tourism promotion.
The project is led by the Maritime-Marine Cluster of Andalusia (CMMA) and includes eight partner entities, among them AIMRD, the Intermunicipal Community of Alto Minho (CIM Alto Minho), the Business Association of Beira Baixa (AEBB), the Association for the Development of Baixo Guadiana (ODIANA), CCDR Algarve, the Galician Association of Nautical Activities (AGAN+), and the Tourism Cluster of Extremadura (Cluturex).
The event is aimed at tourism sector professionals, cultural institutions, the media, and the general public.
