Vila Nova de Famalicão saw a 48% increase in guests and a 38.2% rise in overnight stays between 2022 and 2025, solidifying its position as a tourist destination.
Official data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) confirm the strong expansion of tourism in the municipality, with an upward trend continuing in 2026. In July of this year, Famalicão reached a historic peak of 3,760 guests in a single month, the highest monthly figure since 2022, and an average stay of 2.5 nights per visitor.
These figures, reflecting an accommodation capacity of 1,016 beds across 122 local accommodation establishments and seven tourist developments, were presented on Friday, September 25th, at the Camilian Studies Center in Seide São Miguel. The event, the 1st Famalicão Tourism Sector Meeting, brought together partners and entities to discuss the new municipal strategy and promote the "Visite Famalicão" brand.
Domestic visitors account for 64% of guests, while international tourists make up 36%, with the latter playing a crucial role in the length of stay and overnight numbers within the municipality.
The new municipal tourism strategy focuses on five main pillars: Cultural and Literary Tourism (anchored in Camilo's legacy and local heritage), Business Tourism (leveraging the municipality's industrial centrality), Major Events, Nature and Sports Tourism, and Gastronomy.
“
"We are designing a new ambition for tourism, based on our identity, our capacity to welcome, and the richness of our heritage. This is just the beginning of a joint journey to establish the municipality as a modern, attractive, and benchmark destination."
“
"Famalicão is, in fact, the center of the North. Proximity to the airport, Galicia, and major road networks is our greatest competitive advantage. Our main goal is to empower operators, communicate better internally and externally, and transform the growth of our economy and population into new opportunities for tourism."
The meeting also reinforced the commitment to cultural projects, such as the "Camillo – Writer's Routes" initiative. The establishment of the new Tourism and Commerce Unit and the "Visite Famalicão" brand aim to ensure closer management and a qualified, attractive year-round offering.
