The municipality of Terras de Bouro celebrated the end of Gerês Ativo, a nine-day event dedicated to nature sports, which aimed to enhance local resources and establish Gerês as a year-round tourist destination.

The Gerês Ativo – Nature Sports Encounter concluded last Sunday, October 18th, after nine days of activities focused on discovering the municipality of Terras de Bouro through sport, adventure, and contact with nature. Promoted by the Municipality of Terras de Bouro, the initiative featured around 40 activities, involving 12 local tourism animation companies, including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, water activities, canyoning, jeep tours, and stargazing.
The event's objectives were to highlight the municipality's natural resources, boost the local economy, and combat tourism seasonality. According to councilor António Cunha, Gerês Ativo represents a commitment to enhancing the tourism offering and valuing the territory, promoting responsible nature tourism that preserves environmental heritage.
On Friday, October 16th, the program focused on the connection between tourism, environmental education, and personal experiences. In collaboration with the Nature and Forest Conservation Institute (ICNF), a native species planting event was held, linked to regenerative tourism. This was followed by talks by Fábio Inácio on his "Thirteen thousand kilometers on foot around the world" experience and by Carlos Sá with "From the sofa to the world's great stages!". The day concluded with a local gastronomy dinner and live music.
With this first edition, Gerês Ativo reinforces the Municipality's commitment to responsible nature tourism, based on collaboration with tourism stakeholders and the preservation of the natural heritage of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
