The Municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso marks the National Accessibility Day on October 29th with the presentation of the “Brigada + Acesso” project and a tour of the town.

The Póvoa municipality joins the commemorations of National Accessibility Day, established by Resolution of the Assembly of the Republic no. 297/2021. Accessibility is seen as a fundamental right for all, ensuring equal opportunities for access to information, communication, transport, and services, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
To mark the date, the SIGO – Service for Gender Equality and Opportunities and the Inclusion Desk will present the “Brigada + Acesso” proposal. This new project aims to involve citizens in identifying and reporting situations of improper parking or obstruction of pedestrian circulation, reinforcing respect for reserved spaces and raising community awareness.
Objectives include facilitating contact with the GNR (National Republican Guard) and valuing the active participation of people with disabilities. Partners involved are the GNR, Casa de Trabalho de Fontarcada, ASSIS, and the Association for the Support of Visually Impaired People of the District of Braga (AADVDB).
Following the presentation and collection of contributions, a route will be carried out starting and ending at the Paços do Concelho, focusing on assessing parking spaces for reduced mobility and identifying barriers on the ground. The itinerary includes Avenida da República, Praça Engenheiro Armando Rodrigues, Rua Comandante Luís Pinto da Silva, Avenida 25 de Abril, Avenida Maria da Fonte, Avenida de S. José, and Paços do Concelho.
The initiative emphasizes that accessibility benefits the entire community and is a path towards a more just, autonomous, and inclusive society.
