The month of October was dedicated to the appreciation and celebration of theatre in Póvoa de Lanhoso, with the staging of the Lino Gravia Comedy Encounter, an initiative that attracted over 260 spectators to the Theatro Club.
Organized by the Grupo Cénico Povoense with the support of the Municipal Council, the event promotes performing arts and recognizes the role of theatrical associations in the municipality.
Throughout the four Saturdays in October, various groups and companies presented performances, offering the public contact with different artistic proposals, fostering the exchange of experiences, and creating opportunities for encounters between groups, artists, and spectators.
Comedy, with its ability to engage audiences of all generations, served as a privileged element for community outreach, providing moments of humor, conviviality, and reflection. More than just a series of theatrical presentations, this Encounter also paid tribute to the memory of actor and storyteller Lino Gravia and his contribution to amateur theatre, reinforcing the importance of preserving and continuing the theatrical tradition in Póvoa de Lanhoso.
The event concluded with a full house on the last Saturday, watching the comedy that marked the premiere of a new production by TEM – Teatro Experimental Maria, a group part of the training offered by the theatre workshops of the Municipal Council of Póvoa de Lanhoso.
The play “Aqui e Além” proved to be a highlight of the Encounter, showcasing the creative capacity and work of this group, while also demonstrating that associative theatre in the municipality is thriving.
The Lino Gravia Comedy Encounter reaffirmed its importance for celebrating theatre, valuing participating groups and companies, and bringing performing arts closer to the population, consolidating itself as a benchmark initiative in the cultural programming of Póvoa de Lanhoso.
