The Póvoa de Lanhoso Municipal Council will attend the 2nd Western Intangible Cultural Heritage Meeting, organized by the municipality of Torres Vedras, taking place from October 15th to 17th. The Art of Filigree, inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (PCI) in April 2023, will be the focus of a dedicated presentation.
The presentation, aligned with the strategy to promote this art, will occur on October 16th, at 10:30 AM, at the Center for Arts and Creativity of Torres Vedras. The session, titled “From tradition to active safeguarding: the Filigree Competence Center (CCF) of Póvoa de Lanhoso as a space for valuing Intangible Cultural Heritage,” will be led by Orlando Fernandes, Heritage Technician, and Carla Carvalho, CCF Coordinator.
The filigree from Póvoa de Lanhoso, with historical roots in the Castro de Lanhoso, will be analyzed regarding its historical evolution and safeguarding strategies. The Filigree Competence Center, established by the Municipality after national classification, is highlighted as a crucial step in the active preservation of this know-how.
This center for learning, innovation, and sharing brings together artisans, the community, schools, and researchers, translating institutional recognition into concrete actions for training, awareness, and local development, thus ensuring the future of this art as an identity and economic brand for the municipality.
