Ricardo Araújo, Mayor of Guimarães, has been chosen to join the prestigious Bloomberg LSE European City Leadership Initiative. The mayor is part of a select group of municipal leaders, including the mayors of Porto, Pedro Duarte, Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, and Coimbra, Ana Abrunhosa.
This initiative, promoted by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and implemented by LSE Cities in collaboration with the Hertie School in Berlin, will equip Guimarães Municipality with pioneering knowledge and strategies. The goal is to modernize public services, optimize operations, and effectively address pressing citizen challenges in areas such as housing, transport, and youth opportunities.
Ricardo Araújo participated in the program's first stage, held in London from October 3rd to 7th. During his stay, he enhanced Guimarães's international profile through strategic meetings with global and regional leaders, notably with Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies, and Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London.
