The project, representing an investment of nearly 9 million euros, was marked by a site visit from the Mayor of Braga, João Rodrigues, accompanied by the Councillor for Education and Sport, Hortense Santos, and the Vice-Mayor and Councillor for Municipal Works, Altino Bessa. This intervention is seen as a decisive step in enhancing the city's sports heritage.
The Mayor of Braga, João Rodrigues, emphasized the urgency of the investment, stating that the work "waited too long". "This intervention is a recognition of the central place sport holds in Braga's identity and the realization of an ambition long felt by successive directors of ABC, by athletes, fans, and all who always believed that the ‘Cathedral of Portuguese Handball’ deserved conditions befitting its greatness", declared Rodrigues.
The renovated pavilion will feature 986 seats, including adaptations for people with reduced mobility, and a new stand with 71 seats. The intervention also includes the creation of new changing rooms, a gym, an official club shop, a museum dedicated to the sport's history, and enhanced technical and support areas.
With the commencement of the works, the Municipality of Braga reaffirms its commitment to qualifying public infrastructure and supporting local associations, aiming to honor the past and prepare the city's future.
