The Municipality of Esposende will implement, from October 26, a paid parking system in three zones of the city center, covering approximately 140 spots.

The objective is to promote the turnover of the most sought-after spots and facilitate access to traditional commerce and services. The measure covers about 140 spots, out of over 1,300 parking spaces in the vicinity. More than 1,100 spots will remain free, with the intervention confined to specific areas where short-term parking availability is intended to be improved.
Prolonged occupation of the most central spots sometimes hinders parking for those who travel to Esposende for shopping, dining, using services, or dealing with public offices. By promoting greater turnover, the Municipality aims for these spots to be used by more people throughout the day, contributing to better access conditions to the center and boosting local economic activity.
Paid parking will be limited to the following areas: Rua de Santa Maria dos Anjos, between the swimming pool roundabout and the Firefighters; Largo Comandante Oliveira Martins, next to Largo dos Peixinhos; and Parque dos Bombeiros, in the western zone.
The intervention is part of a planning process that includes a project approved in 2024, aiming for more efficient parking management and improved accessibility to the urban center. The parking meters were acquired under Project no. 5401 – EsposendeLink – Digital Commercial Neighborhoods, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The total investment approved for the operation amounts to €841,800.12, with €31,250.00 allocated to the acquisition of parking meters.
The rate will be 0.75 euros per hour, with a maximum stay of two hours. Payment applies from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Outside these periods, parking will be free.
With this measure, Esposende aims to balance mobility with the balanced use of public space, creating better conditions for residents, merchants, workers, and visitors, and enhancing the attractiveness of the city center.
