The new vehicle, funded under Notice no. 1/2025 from the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV), will enable assisted transport and safe transfer of animals at risk, speeding up the rescue of companion animals in urgent, accidental, dangerous, or suffering situations.
The handover of the vehicle to CROA Barcelos was attended by the Mayor, Mário Constantino Lopes, other members of the Municipal Executive, and the municipal veterinarian, Luís Almeida.
The Mobile Animal Rescue Unit has been specifically adapted to ensure adequate safety, hygiene, and comfort during transport, featuring climate control, modular cages, adapted cargo space, and a refrigerator for storing medication and necessary equipment.
With this new resource, Barcelos enhances its animal protection response capacity, providing CROA with better conditions to fulfill its mission and a faster, more tailored response for animals in need.
