The Ethnographic Museum of Serpa was distinguished with a Prize in the category of Research, Publications, and Scientific Dissemination and an Honorable Mention in the category of Exhibition and Museographic Project, in the 2026 edition of the Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM) Awards.

The award ceremony took place on October 30th, at the Cineteatro Municipal João Mota, in Sesimbra, with the presence of councilor José Pereira and members of the technical teams involved in the project.
The prize was awarded to the visitor guides in the Research, Publications, and Scientific Dissemination category, while the honorable mention recognized the work developed in the long-term exhibition "A Life of Work". This exhibition, conceived in conjunction with the building's renovation works, originated from the collection gathered in the eighties and involved field research and local populations.
The awarded guides were considered fundamental for identifying objects and understanding their context, given the quantity of pieces on display and the limited space for captions. The aim was to create an accessible tool that would extend the visitor's experience beyond the museum.
The APOM Awards aim to distinguish the work of museums, institutions, and professionals in the field of museology. The 2026 edition received 78 applications from across the country.
