Developed by IPR – Instituto de Planeamento Regenerativo, associated with Terracrua Design, the tool integrates Portugal's new LiDAR survey, provided by the Direção-Geral do Território, and over 130 layers of official and research data. This information allows for integrated consultation of elements such as relief, slopes, solar and wind exposure, water bodies, soils, land use, fire risk, and various legal and environmental constraints.
The IPR Atlas makes information necessary for understanding and planning land more accessible, gathering data that usually requires consulting different sources and specialized tools. The platform also offers a detailed Cartographic Base, with 18 layers of information produced from the digital terrain model, including contour lines, watersheds, water accumulation and runoff, soil moisture, and erosion risk.
Two simulators are under development: a water simulator to visualize runoff paths and precipitation accumulation zones, and a fire simulator projecting fire spread scenarios. Both are in testing phases with the team and early users.
The platform is designed for landowners, rural property buyers, municipalities, architecture and engineering firms, surveyors, and agricultural, forestry, and environmental consultants. Integration with IPR Cloud allows professional teams to share projects and monitor field interventions via mobile devices.
The development of the IPR Atlas exemplifies the application of new technologies and artificial intelligence, demonstrating how small teams from interior regions can create internationally ambitious technological solutions. Following Portugal, the platform is preparing to expand to Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Angola.
Access is free via terracruadesign.pt/atlas, with specialized territorial analysis and characterization services also available. The initiative, born in Santa Clara-a-Nova, municipality of Almodôvar, combines technology, knowledge, and regenerative planning for sustainable land management.
The Municipality of Almodôvar congratulates Terracrua Design and the IPR team for this initiative, highlighting entrepreneurship, innovation, and the capacity to create knowledge from the territory, affirming the municipality as a space for innovation growth.
