The award acknowledges the project's architectural and landscape quality, as well as its ability to enhance the territory and create a new collective enjoyment space near the Alqueva. The jury, which unanimously selected the project, highlighted how the intervention transforms an infrastructure associated with the Alqueva into an area dedicated to recreation, water contact, and landscape appreciation.
Among the praised aspects were the way the project interprets the location, the articulation between the shores, the use of vegetation, and the creation of a new centrality on the lake. Integrated into the Moura Nautical Station, managed by the Moura Municipal Council, Praia do Lago establishes itself as a reference point for enjoying the Alqueva and for promoting activities related to nautical tourism, leisure, and nature contact.
For the Municipality of Moura, this award signifies recognition of a territorial qualification strategy that leverages the Alqueva as a key asset. The focus is on creating public spaces that bring people closer to water and landscape, thereby boosting the municipality's tourism appeal.
In the C4 – Public Space category, seven entries were submitted, with five projects reaching the finals, including Praia do Lago. The National Architecture Awards FORMA, established in 2022, annually recognize architectural works built in Portugal across six categories. The initiative is promoted by IF – Produtora Cultural de Arquitetura / Ideas Forward.
The 1st National Architecture Award FORMA – Public Space serves as significant recognition for the intervention at Praia do Lago, emphasizing the role of architecture and landscape design in qualifying public spaces and fostering connection between people and their territory.
