The municipal program “Desporto Sénior” (Senior Sports) has received the Quality Recognition for Senior Physical Exercise Programs 2026, an award presented by Cidade Social as part of the Municipality Friendly to Sport Program. The award ceremony took place on October 1st, in Lagoa, during the IV Cidade Social Congress, coinciding with the International Day of Older Persons.
This recognition aims to highlight the quality of work developed in promoting more active, healthy, and participatory aging. The evaluation considered various aspects of municipal physical exercise programs for the senior population, including professional qualifications, organization, planning, exercise prescription, safety, participant monitoring, results assessment, and continuous improvement.
More than just physical activity, the “Desporto Sénior” program serves as a space for meeting and participation. It contributes to maintaining autonomy and mobility, to physical and emotional well-being, and to strengthening bonds among participants. In a territory where proximity and community are particularly important, these programs also play a significant role in preventing social isolation, establishing routines, and promoting more active lifestyles.
Receiving this seal allows the Municipality of Almodôvar to continue using it in the program's promotion, attesting to the quality of its practices. The distinction reinforces the Municipality's commitment to investing in physical activity, health, autonomy, and the quality of life for older adults, encouraging them to stay active and connected with the community.
