The resolution, voted unanimously, includes direct funding to the Bairrada Carnival Association (ACB), amounting to 17,518.50 euros, for the organization of both events. Additionally, global financial support of up to 60,681.84 euros was approved for the four participating samba schools, distributed equally, capped at 15,170.46 euros per school.
An extraordinary support to the ACB was also approved, up to a maximum of 26,477.16 euros, intended to safeguard the Carnival's realization in case of adverse weather conditions that demonstrably prevent any of the three parades. The activation of this support depends on consultation with the municipality and the assessment of actual losses. This financial aid is in addition to the Municipality's usual logistical support.
António Jorge Franco, president of the Municipality of Mealhada, highlighted the Carnival as "a very strong brand for Mealhada" and reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to continue supporting the event and all those who make it possible, despite financial difficulties and facility limitations. "We are working to provide the best conditions for this entire dynamic," he added.
Vice-president Filomena Pinheiro emphasized the recognition the event brings to the work developed in the municipality and its capacity to project Mealhada's image nationally, highlighting the role of samba schools as "generators of important social dynamics and community involvement".
Councilor Nuno Veiga pointed out the Carnival's economic impact, noting that the event involves around two thousand people and costs approximately half a million euros to stage, generating a return of one and a half million euros, according to economic data.
The Mealhada Carnival, whose next year's edition will be officially presented next Saturday, is one of the most emblematic events in the municipality, mobilizing associations, samba schools, families, businesses, and thousands of visitors.
