Ten schools from the municipality of Anadia were awarded the Green Flag Eco-Schools 2025/2026. The award ceremony took place on October 8th, in Sintra, at Air Base No. 1, organized by the Blue Flag Association for Environment and Education (ABAAE).
This award culminates a series of actions and activities planned and carried out in the school context, focusing on environmental education, awareness, and good practices. The program involves students, teachers, and staff, under the guidance of a responsible teaching team that defines and votes on events with participants from all grade levels.
This year, Anadia also received an Honorable Mention for the project “Illustrate to Reforest” (Faber-Castell Challenge 2026-26). The initiative aimed to raise students' awareness about choosing and using sustainably produced products, with environmental preservation and minimized ecological footprint. The project, developed by the Escola Básica e Secundária de Anadia, sought to convey, through award-winning drawings, the importance of preserving and reforesting burnt areas.
The Municipality congratulated the awarded schools, emphasizing that environmental issues will be a policy to preserve, monitor, and support.
Eco-Schools is an international program of the Foundation for Environmental Education, developed in Portugal by ABAAE since 1996. The program encourages school communities to undertake actions in Environmental Education for Sustainability and recognizes the quality work they develop. The multi-level coordination (international, national, regional, and school) ensures common objectives, methodologies, and criteria, respecting the specificity of each school and its surrounding environment.
The awarded schools are: Centro Escolar de Arcos, Centro Escolar das Avelãs, Centro Escolar de Sangalhos, Centro Escolar de Tamengos, Colégio Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Escola Básica e Secundária de Anadia, Escola EB de Vilarinho do Bairro, Escola EB1 da Moita, Escola EB1 do Chãozinho e JI da Amoreira da Gândara, and the Escola Profissional de Viticultura e Enologia.
