As part of the commemorations for the National Water Day, observed on October 1st, the President of the Municipal Chamber of Albergaria-a-Velha, Carlos Coelho, attended the inauguration of the exhibition “Water Resources: History, Society and Knowledge”. The event took place at the CISE - Interpretation Centre of Serra da Estrela, in Seia.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, and the President of the Portuguese Environment Agency, José Pimenta Machado. The exhibition will be open to the public for six months.
This exhibition is the result of a technical collaboration protocol signed on July 5th between the Municipalities of Albergaria-a-Velha and Seia, and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). Through this partnership, the Municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha is temporarily lending pieces from the APA's historical collection under its care, allowing public access.
The pieces displayed in Seia were originally presented at the Municipal Library of Albergaria-a-Velha in 2023. The exhibition includes books, documents, photographs, and technological instruments that explore the historical relationship between public water services, water management, and social and economic dynamics in Portugal.
The selection highlights the technical knowledge accumulated by generations of professionals from the Hydraulic Services and their crucial role in managing the country's water resources.
