The Ribeira Grande City Council has invested in new technologies to bring the history of Azorean emigration closer to children, aiming to establish the museum as a space for knowledge, education, and discovery. The new virtual tours have been exclusively designed for children and are available in Portuguese, English, French, and German.
This initiative represents a significant investment in heritage education and the diversification of the museum experience. Approximately 25% of the museum's tourist visitors are children, highlighting the importance of developing specific responses for this audience and providing experiences that go beyond simple observation of the exhibitions.
Through these guided tours, younger visitors are invited to explore why so many Azoreans left their islands, the destinations they chose, the difficulties they faced during their journeys, and how they contributed to the formation of Azorean communities worldwide.
The aim is to spark curiosity, stimulate learning, and create an emotional connection for new generations with the history, identity, and collective memory of the Azores. With this commitment, the Ribeira Grande City Council seeks to make the Museum of Azorean Emigration an increasingly accessible, inclusive, and welcoming space for diverse audiences.
