The Municipality of Horta has launched an international public tender for the construction of two water storage reservoirs for human consumption, located in the parishes of Capelo and Flamengos.

The investment, estimated at € 1,005,000.00, aims to resolve long-standing issues in the supply of drinking water on the island of Faial. The President of the Horta Municipal Chamber, Carlos Ferreira, highlighted the importance of this action for the provision of an essential public service.
One of the reservoirs will be built at Largo Jaime Melo, in the parish of Flamengos, with the objective of solving a problem of water turbidity that has affected the parish for over 30 years. The other reservoir will be located at Alto da Ribeira do Cabo, in the parish of Capelo, and aims to increase the availability of water for human consumption in the southern part of the island.
These new infrastructures will allow for better management of water reserves, increasing the capacity to respond to consumption variations and the maintenance needs of existing infrastructures.
The project is part of the Municipal Plan for Modernization and Resilience for the Water Supply of the Municipality of Horta, integrated into operation ACORES2030-FEDER-01456400, within the scope of the Açores 2030 Program and the objective of sustainable water management.
