The Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation (FGF) distinguished, on October 8th, the research of Mafalda Raposo with the Scientific Merit Prize in the area of Medical and Health Sciences, valued at 6,000 euros.

The award was given for the work titled “Blood transcriptome sequencing identifies biomarkers able to track disease stages in spinocerebellar ataxia type 3”, focused on identifying blood biomarkers capable of tracking the different stages of Machado-Joseph disease.
This research, by deepening the understanding of the disease's progression mechanisms, could open new perspectives for its monitoring and for the development of more precise diagnostic and follow-up approaches, highlighting science's role in addressing concrete health challenges.
The initiative reaffirms the FGF's commitment to valuing scientific merit and promoting research capable of generating knowledge and contributing to societal well-being.
The Foundation expressed its gratitude to the Caixa de Crédito Agrícola Mútuo dos Açores for their support, considered fundamental for recognizing researchers' work and the impact of science.
