The new regulations, established by Regulation No. 31/2026, honor the Azorean writer Álamo Oliveira, promoting cultural diversity and a love for reading and writing. The prize, awarded biennially, will alternately distinguish works of narrative, poetry, or drama.
Individuals of any nationality, aged 16 or over, can apply by submitting original, unpublished works written in Portuguese. Applications must be submitted by March 31st of the respective year and will be evaluated by a specialized jury.
The award, valued at 10,000 euros, includes the publication of the winning work with an initial print run of 250 copies. The award ceremony will take place in the parish of Raminho, the writer's birthplace.
The Mayor, Fátima Amorim, highlighted the prize's importance in recognizing local literary talent and fostering new authors. "We want to create opportunities for more people to showcase their literary abilities, recognizing literature as an essential tool for culture, critical thinking, and societal development," she stated.
