The Municipality of Sernancelhe distinguished 99 students from the county with the Padre João Rodrigues School Merit and Excellence Awards, in a ceremony that recognized the students' commitment and results throughout the academic year.

The initiative, which marked a historic moment for the county, embodies the municipal executive's commitment to Education as a fundamental pillar of human development and sustainable territorial progress. The awards honor Padre João Rodrigues, a Jesuit and author of the first grammar of the Japanese language, who also lends his name to the Sernancelhe Basic and Secondary School.
Students from the Padre João Rodrigues Basic and Secondary School (grades 5-10) and the Sernancelhe Professional School (three years of training) were honored. The selection was based on merit and academic excellence criteria defined by the respective pedagogical councils.
In the 2nd and 3rd cycles, students with final averages above 4.5 were considered. In Secondary and Professional Education, students with averages above 16 were recognized. The distinction included a certificate and a monetary prize for the purchase of didactic and sports material.
Beyond academic results, the initiative values the effort, dedication, responsibility, and civic values of young people, encouraging them to pursue their educational paths with ambition and commitment to the community.
The Municipality also highlighted the crucial role of teachers, school administrations, and families. The directors, Dr. Fátima Correia (Padre João Rodrigues Basic and Secondary School) and Dr. Ana Chaves (Sernancelhe Professional School), were recognized.
Through this initiative, the Sernancelhe Municipal Council reinforces its commitment to Education, recognizing students as protagonists of the county's future.
