“"Reading is opening doors to knowledge, imagination, and critical thinking. With this initiative, we want each book delivered to be the start of an extraordinary journey. Reading should not be seen as a school obligation, but rather as a daily habit of discovery, and it is fundamental that this encouragement continues within each home, with the support of families."

The Murça Municipal Council distributed a book to each student of the Agrupamento de Escolas de Murça between October 12th and 15th, in an initiative to encourage reading and value national literature.
The initiative, developed in coordination with the School Grouping, exclusively selected works by national authors integrated into the National Reading Plan (PNL) and adapted to each educational stage.
For the younger students, the choice fell on the classic "A Maior Flor do Mundo" by Nobel Prize winner José Saramago. In the 2nd and 3rd cycles, the works distributed were "A Caixa de Gratidão" by Margarida Fonseca Santos, and "O Gato de Uppsala" by Cristina Carvalho. For secondary school students, the municipality opted for the award-winning novel "Índice Médio de Felicidade" by David Machado.
In addition to fostering reading habits from childhood to adolescence, the measure aims to value Portuguese literature and creators, ensuring that books function as appealing pedagogical tools suitable for each age group.
Through this action, the Municipality of Murça reinforces its commitment to equal opportunities and free access to certified quality literature throughout the municipality.
