Five Private Institutions for Social Solidarity (IPSS) in Ponte da Barca hosted animal socialization sessions, an initiative aimed at combating loneliness and promoting user well-being.

The Private Institutions for Social Solidarity (IPSS) in the municipality of Ponte da Barca once again hosted animal socialization sessions, as part of activity 8 – “Socialization through contact with Animals”, integrated into the application for the Intermunicipal Action Plans for Active Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups (PAIIAGV).
This initiative took place in five institutions in the municipality, namely at the Social Center of Entre Ambos-os-Rios, the Day Center of Cuide Vila Verde, of the Social and Cultural Association of the Friends of Barca, the Parish and Social Center of Lavradas Parish, the Social and Cultural Association of Britelo Parish, and the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Disabled Citizens (APPACDM) – Ponte da Barca Delegation.
Led by the specialist technician in the animal field, Daniel Duarte, the initiative's main objective was to combat loneliness and social isolation, stimulate physical activity, and reinforce socialization dynamics in an institutional context.
Throughout the sessions, users had the opportunity to interact directly with the animals in an environment of closeness, affection, and sharing. These moments provided enriching experiences, promoting joy, emotional well-being, and camaraderie among participants.
The initiative underscores the importance of differentiating activities in promoting the quality of life for users of social institutions, contributing to inclusion, active participation, and active aging.
