The municipal executive of Viana do Castelo has greenlit the contract award and draft agreement for the "Construction of Controlled-Cost Housing – Lot 66/81 – Darque" project. The investment totals 8.490 million euros, following an international public tender, with an estimated execution period of 720 days. This initiative will see the construction of 64 housing units, comprising T1, T2, and T3 typologies, in the town of Darque.
This project is part of the Viana do Castelo Municipality's Integrated Housing Program. The program aims to build homes for the middle class at controlled costs, meaning prices below market rates, to facilitate access for young families and households with monthly incomes between 1,700 and 3,000 euros.
The tender for the allocation of these controlled-cost sale housing units by the Viana do Castelo Municipal Council took place last year. At the time the project was announced, the Mayor of Viana do Castelo, Luís Nobre, indicated that the development would include the requalification of the urban space surrounding the six lots. This area, which had been neglected for decades, will be enhanced to "enhance the collective heritage".
Furthermore, these municipal housing developments will also be established in the parish of S. Romão de Neiva. Eighteen numbered lots for residential use, with T2 and T3 typologies, will be created in the area known as Três Marcos.
This housing investment complements the "Local Housing Strategy - 1st Right," part of the Housing Access Support Program and the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). This overall program represents an investment of nearly 51 million euros in the Viana do Castelo municipality, benefiting 641 households, with 457 of these supported through direct municipal investment.
