The Seixal Theatre Festival celebrates its 43rd edition between November 12 and 22, presenting eight plays that explore the fragility of freedom, in a year commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese Constitution.

The festival, held across various stages in the municipality, brings together a series of performances intended to foster reflection on freedom, past and present. The event kicks off with a play about Palestine, focusing on daily life in an occupied territory, followed by productions addressing censorship, torture during the Estado Novo regime, life under authoritarian systems, and the role of work in society.
Plays such as «Exercício de Montagem. Uma performance que é um Filme Futuro», «Paredes com Ouvidos. A Censura e a Tortura no Estado Novo», «Ano 2200. Uma Visão Poética e Apocalíptica da Humanidade», and «As Telefones» are part of the program. The festival also includes a critical reading of «O Rei Lear» and the play «Constituição», which recreates historical moments and the lives of young people in the context of affirming democracy.
A new feature this year is the festival being hosted in the municipality's secondary schools. The Escola Secundária de Amora will host «Aurora», a story about a university student imprisoned and tortured by the PIDE-DGS, which will be presented to students. The performance is also open to the general public.
All performances are free of charge. The shows at the Fórum Cultural do Seixal will include Portuguese Sign Language, subtitling, and audio description, promoting accessibility.
