The Municipality of Montijo will enhance the sustainability of its school transport service with the acquisition of an electric minibus, which will enter service at the beginning of the 2nd school term.

The operation will prevent the emission of approximately 22.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) into the atmosphere, contributing to more sustainable mobility and reducing the environmental footprint of school transport.
The acquisition of the electric minibus results from a proposal submitted by the Municipality of Montijo to the Environmental Fund, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The proposal, approved under Component C121 – REPowerEU, is titled 'Decarbonisation of Public Transport, electric vehicles in School Transport'.
The operation represents a total investment of €334,000, of which €202,010 corresponds to eligible investment, fully financed by the PRR.
In addition to reducing polluting emissions, the initiative aims to raise awareness about the use of zero-emission vehicles, setting an example through the adoption of more environmentally friendly transport solutions. The operation also includes monitoring results, allowing for tracking the measure's impact and identifying areas for improvement.
With this acquisition, the Municipality of Montijo takes another step towards decarbonising public transport and promoting a more environmentally sustainable school transport service.
