Art and creativity were celebrated in Moita with the inauguration of the XII Small Format Painting Biennial, where Rafael Oliveira and Cristiano Felismina received awards.

Moita hosted the official opening ceremony of the XII Small Format Painting Biennial - Joaquim Afonso Madeira Prize, an event that highlighted art and creativity. During the ceremony, held on October 10th, awards were presented to the winning artists.
Rafael Oliveira was the winner of the 2026 edition, securing the Joaquim Afonso Madeira Prize, which comes with 1,300 euros. The Revelation Prize, valued at 600 euros, was awarded to the young talent Cristiano Felismina. The awarded works will now become part of the organizing entities' heritage.
The Biennial pays tribute to Joaquim Afonso Madeira, a figure strongly connected to Alhos Vedros, recognized for his artistic merit as an author, essayist, director, set designer, and costume designer.
The ceremony was attended by various personalities, including Councilor Anabela Rosa, representing the Municipality of Moita, Artur Varandas, from the Parish Council of Alhos Vedros, and Professor António Raminhos, from the Cultural Animation Circle of Alhos Vedros (CACAV).
The jury evaluated dozens of applications based on criteria such as technique, conceptual quality, creativity, and originality. The exhibition, featuring a selection of works, will be on display at the Moinho de Maré de Alhos Vedros until November 22, 2026.
