The Town Hall (Paços do Concelho), the iron road bridge, and the Clock Tower in Alcácer do Sal are being lit in pink throughout October. This initiative aligns with the “Outubro Rosa” (October Pink) campaign, focused on the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. In November, the same municipal facilities will be illuminated in blue for the “Novembro Azul” (November Blue) campaign, which aims to raise awareness for the prevention and early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
This initiative is promoted in collaboration with the Alcácer do Sal Delegation of the Portuguese League Against Cancer – Southern Regional Unit. This organization will be running various awareness activities for the community throughout October and November.
As part of “Outubro Rosa”, a walk open to the public is also scheduled for October 11th, aiming to emphasize the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
Additionally, the Alcácer do Sal Municipal Auditorium will host a solidarity Fado night on October 16th at 9 PM. The event will feature several Fado singers, guitarists, and musicians, dedicated to Fado and solidarity. Confirmed artists include Maria Mirra, Joana Luz, Rute Belga, Duarte Gato, Ricardo Martins, and Fábio Veríssimo, accompanied by João Núncio and Pipe Núncio on guitars, Carlos Silva on viola, and Gonçalo Cercas on bass viola. The ticket price is 8 euros, with all proceeds going to the solidarity cause associated with October Pink.
During November, new activities will be organized, specifically targeting the male population, to raise awareness about the prevention and early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
By participating in these campaigns through the illumination of key landmarks and facilities in the municipality, the Alcácer do Sal Municipal Council seeks to reinforce the message of health prevention and awareness, drawing the community's attention to the importance of early diagnosis.
