Approximately 25 students and 24 Capgemini employees participated in the "OCEAN: Raising Awareness to Care" initiative on October 7th at the Environmental Education Center of Gaia's Rivers, aiming to raise awareness about marine protection.

The event, promoted by Capgemini Portugal as part of Impact Together Month (ITM) 2026 and led by the Portuguese Marine Litter Association (APLM), was supported by the Vila Nova de Gaia City Council and Águas de Gaia. Around 25 students from the Gaia Nascente School Group, a teacher, 24 Capgemini employees, and municipal technicians took part.
The main objective was to raise participants' awareness about the importance of ocean protection and marine litter prevention, fostering environmental responsibility and active citizenship. Throughout the morning, fun educational activities and group dynamics were conducted to deepen knowledge about the impacts of pollution on marine ecosystems.
The program included educational games developed by APLM and sharing/learning moments. The initiative concluded with a waste monitoring and cleanup action at Miramar Beach, providing participants with direct contact with the marine litter issue and reinforcing the importance of environmentally responsible behaviors.
This collaboration between public entities, companies, and civil society highlights the importance of environmental education in forming more conscious and participatory citizens for ocean protection and building a sustainable future.
