The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) has once again partnered with the Casa Ronald McDonald for the “Chefs com Amor” program, preparing meals for families with children undergoing hospital treatment.

On October 23rd, a group of ten staff members and students from FCUP gathered at the Casa Ronald McDonald, near São João Hospital, to cook 48 vegetable soups and 44 bolognese pasta meals. This solidarity action, part of the FCUP 2026 Day commemorations, involved the faculty providing ingredients and the volunteers offering their culinary skills.
The meals were individually packaged for freezing, an essential measure to prevent waste and germ spread, allowing families to enjoy the dishes prepared with care. Each package included a message of support: “This meal was specially prepared for you with great affection by the staff of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto”.
“

"I left with a full heart. We were cooking for people going through a very difficult situation. It was a moment of sharing and a demonstration of affection for these families."

Susana Costa · Technical collaborator at FCUP
“

"we felt we did something very special. Volunteering gives more meaning to life, ours and others'."

Marisa Cardoso · Biology student
“

"being able to cook for these families allows us, in a way, to take a little bit of their burden off their shoulders, even if it's minuscule. I was very happy to be able to participate."

Sofia Correia · Geospatial Engineering student
