The boardwalk intervention represents an investment of one million two hundred thousand euros and includes the complete replacement of all access points and connection points between the road network, parking areas, and the beachfront. Constant exposure to climatic and maritime conditions requires rigorous maintenance of these structures.
Luísa Salgueiro, Mayor, explained that "the coastal boardwalks are among the most exposed structures in the municipality. Every day, throughout the year, they face wind, rain, and sand, making wear and tear inevitable. Therefore, their maintenance is a constant job".
This project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the coastal front, which includes the creation of the North Coast Cycle Path. This exclusive bicycle lane, approximately 8 kilometers long, connects with existing boardwalks and represents an investment of 1.5 million euros, with 80% funding from Norte 2030.
Additionally, the Municipality has been undertaking interventions to improve beach access for people with reduced mobility. These solutions include adapted routes, boardwalks over the sand, and accessible sanitary facilities, with an investment of 450 thousand euros, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
These actions have contributed to 12 bathing areas in the municipality being awarded the "Accessible Beach" distinction.
