Next Thursday, October 1st, the Municipal Auditorium in Lousada will host a morning dedicated to the protection, safety, dignity, and quality of life of the elderly population. The event, commemorating the International Day of Older Persons, will particularly focus on the issue of illegal care homes and accommodation and care services lacking legal framework.
This initiative follows up on the work developed by the municipality in protecting the elderly and in preventing and signaling situations of vulnerability. The debate aims to promote knowledge, prevention, and coordination among different entities, contributing to a more effective and coordinated response.
The opening session is scheduled for 10:00 AM, followed by the presentation of the eGuard Project – Teleassistance and Monitoring System, designed to enhance the protection, safety, and support of individuals in situations of greater vulnerability.
The central event will be a roundtable discussion titled “Illegal Care Homes: How to Combat Them,” scheduled for 11:00 AM. The debate will address the issue from legal, public health, safety, and social action perspectives.
Participants in the debate include Dr. Maria José Pacheco, Public Prosecutor for the District of Porto Este; Dr. Ana Teresa Silva, Public Health Physician and Health Authority; and Sergeant Domingos Machado, from the Investigation and Support Unit for Specific Victims (NIAVE) of the Guarda Nacional Republicana. The moderation will be led by Dr. Regina Pacheco, Coordinator of the Social Assistance and Support Service (SAAS) of the Municipality of Lousada.
