The event, promoted by ADENE – Energy Agency, brought together hundreds of municipal representatives, experts, and institutional partners to analyze the implementation of Municipal Climate Action Plans (PMAC) and strengthen local energy transition. Monforte is among the 80 pre-adhering municipalities to this national initiative.
The “Cities' Climate Passport”, developed by ADENE, the Climate Agency (ApC), and IN+ (Instituto Superior Técnico), is a voluntary and free tool that monitors and values municipalities' contributions to climate objectives. Adherence to the platform may facilitate access to funds and financing.
During the meeting, the creation of the “Local Climate Action Award” was announced, which will distinguish and financially support the most excellent municipal measures. The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, emphasized the importance of “rewarding implementation, distinguishing results, and giving visibility to those who demonstrate that climate transition can bring concrete improvements to people's lives”.
The President of ADENE, Nelson Lage, highlighted the value of local technical capacity and the support provided to municipal councils, acknowledging the effort of the teams managing climate plans. "We will support every municipality that wishes to join, train the teams, and provide useful tools to meet the challenges," he assured.
