The commemorations for the International Day of Older Persons, promoted by the Municipality of Monforte with the support of the Parish Councils of the Municipality, took place on October 1st, the date on which the event is celebrated worldwide. This year, the theme was «The Longevity Era: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives».
Around 250 participants, aged 65 or older (for one of the spouses), enjoyed a free program that included a convivial lunch, snack, and musical entertainment at the Monforte Municipal Multipurpose Hall.
The program began at 1:00 PM with the reception of participants. Present were the Mayor, Miguel Rasquinho, and the Vice-Mayor, Raquel Pereira, accompanied by members of their Support Office: Sara Rasquinho, José Silva, and Joaquina Ramalho. Also attending were the Presidents of the Parish Councils of Assumar, Monforte, Santo Aleixo, and Vaiamonte: Joaquim Martins, Manuel João Mendes, António Pereira, and Fernando Calçoa.
In his statements, Miguel Rasquinho expressed his satisfaction with the event. He highlighted that the event pays tribute to the older residents of the Municipality and recalled that the quality of life and social protection of the senior population remain top priorities for the Executive and municipal services, motivating regular intervention and planning throughout the year.
