Funchal is hosting the second edition of the Madeira International Bird Exhibition (MIBE II), an international ornithology exhibition featuring around 1,700 birds in competition and 126 exhibiting breeders.

The official presentation of the event, organized by the Madeira Ornithological Association (AOM) in co-organization with the National Portuguese Ornithological Federation (FONP) and under the auspices of the World Ornithological Confederation (COM), took place on October 19th in the Atrium of the Funchal City Council. The event is supported by the Municipality of Funchal.
The exhibition will be held from October 23rd to 25th, 2026, at the Pavilhão dos Trabalhadores, in Santo António, Funchal. Following the success of the first edition in 2024, MIBE II records a record number of participants, with approximately 1,000 birds from mainland Portugal. The exhibiting breeders come from Madeira, the Azores, and mainland Portugal, as well as from Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Helena Leal, the councilor responsible for Sports, highlighted the event's importance for Funchal's international standing in ornithology, noting its growth and significant dimension. "It is a pleasure for the Municipality of Funchal to once again open its doors to this regional event, but with an international dimension," she stated, emphasizing the initiative's contribution to boosting the local economy, promoting sports tourism, and its cultural, educational, and social benefits.
Helena Leal congratulated the Madeira Ornithological Association and all involved for organizing another edition and reiterated the Municipality's willingness to continue supporting initiatives of this nature, which help establish Funchal as a venue for internationally projected events.
