The Funchal Municipal Assembly Hall hosted the 1st ordinary session of the current term of the Municipal Council for Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination (CMIGND), which took place on September 23rd. The meeting was chaired by councilwoman Helena Leal.
The CMIGND, a consultative body of the Municipality of Funchal, brings together various entities with the aim of promoting reflection and cooperation on gender equality and non-discrimination, contributing to the definition and implementation of municipal policies in this area.
During the session, councilwoman Helena Leal presented the CMIGND's Activity Plan for 2026, which was validated by the municipal councilors. The meeting also served to review the progress of actions already developed throughout the year, in partnership with the different councilors, and to present and validate the initiatives planned until the end of 2026.
Among the planned actions, initiatives related to the World Day of Equality, celebrated in October, and the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women, in November, stand out. The Council's agenda also includes the March: Madeira Pride, scheduled for next Saturday, September 26th.
The meeting also served to strengthen the coordination between the Municipality of Funchal and the entities that make up the Council, reaffirming the joint commitment to promoting equality, combating discrimination, and building a more inclusive society.
