Between September 16th and 22nd, Oeiras hosted the European Mobility Week 2026, an initiative by Parques Tejo aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and the rediscovery of public space. The diverse program included activities for schools, families, companies, and the general community, transforming different parts of the municipality into areas for experimentation and social interaction.
The week kicked off with the event Oeiras Sai à Rua, near the Escola Básica de São Bruno, where Rua Dona Simoa Godinho was occupied by active mobility experiences, stories, and games for the school community. This initiative highlighted the importance of allowing people to experience public space in new ways.
The following days brought reflection and participation with the BEN-CEiiA Conference, focused on business mobility and logistics, and the 14th Meeting of the Cooperation Network for Sustainable Development Goals. In Algés, the Sunset Bike events combined music and discussions on cycling and commuting habits. The Limpar de Bicla action associated cycling with environmental awareness.
The Casa Aberta: SATUO invited the public to visit the Paço de Arcos station, discussing future transport needs in Oeiras. Concurrently, the Green Experience, part of Mexa-se na Marginal, introduced sustainable mobility experiences and activities to families and visitors.
The week concluded at the Parque de Estacionamento dos Navegantes in Paço de Arcos, with Cinema no Parque. The film screenings, focused on cycling and aimed at schools and families on September 21st and 22nd, gave a cultural use to a space normally dedicated to cars, extending the conversation on sustainable commuting and more vibrant public spaces.
Under the slogan «Juntos movemos Oeiras» (Together we move Oeiras), the initiative brought together over 1,500 people, encouraging the experimentation of solutions and discussion on the needs of those who travel through the municipality daily. Parques Tejo and Oeiras Move continue the work initiated, aiming to integrate sustainable mobility into daily life.
