As part of European Mobility Week, the Horta Nova Local Intervention Office participated, at the invitation of the Lumiar Parish Council, in the Lumiar Active 2026 initiative. Under the slogan “The street belongs to everyone”, the event turned the parish into a true “open street”, where cars gave way to people, creating a space for coexistence, sharing, and community participation. Throughout the morning, various activities were held for the public, promoting more sustainable lifestyles and greater use of public space.
Several partner entities were present, including the Department of Education of the Lisbon Municipal Council, EMEL, Cenas a Pedal, Salva Biclas, Jogos na Mesa, and Bolt, in addition to the Lumiar Parish Council and Gebalis.
The Gebalis team led three playful-educational activities: “How to be a good neighbor”, “Mikado”, and “Good neighborliness clothesline”. These actions aimed to raise participants' awareness about good neighborliness, a sense of belonging, valuing residential spaces, and caring for common areas.
The significant participation of children and families provided moments of learning and sharing in a relaxed atmosphere. Through games and interaction, important values were reinforced for building more cohesive, participatory, and caring communities for their spaces.
Gebalis's presence at this initiative underscores the company's commitment to promoting citizenship, community coexistence, and valuing public space as a place for meeting and proximity.
