The traditional Tagus River vessel, over 100 years old and supported by the UPL Staff's House of Culture and Recreation since 2019, enhanced the university's brand visibility in a sporting context. The institution's logo on its sails helps promote its identity to new audiences.
With Pedro Fazenda, a lecturer and member of CCRPUPL, as helmsman, the boat excelled in the race. The initiative, which promotes the preservation and valorization of nautical traditions, was part of the Oeiras Nautical Festival 2026, promoted by the Municipality of Oeiras and organized by ANCORAS – Associação Náutica Clássicos de Oeiras, from September 4th to 6th, 2026.
The Sr.ª da Atalaia, which can accommodate 8 crew members, is used not only for regattas but also for tours on the Tagus River, traditional sailing navigation training, and events in the Tejo Navy's calendar. The UPL's visual identity on the sails serves as an opportunity to project the University's brand beyond the academic sphere, fostering community ties and initiatives that value teamwork, dedication, and overcoming challenges.
The historic vessel, officially registered with the Tejo Navy, is a living piece of the Maritime Museum and is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of these traditional boats.
The festival featured various initiatives focused on the sea, the Tagus River, and maritime culture, with a program covering sustainability, science, technology, sports, and nautical heritage. Activities included a showcase and parade of traditional Tagus vessels, boat trips, exhibitions, and nautical activity demonstrations.
