The renewal ceremony for the José Miranda Study Scholarship took place at the Museum of Civil Engineering, on the Alameda campus of the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, on September 27. Carolina Brandão, a student in the Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, signed the contract for the third time, in an event attended by academic officials and the scholarship's patron.
Francisco Melo, Técnico's Vice-President for Academic Affairs, highlighted the importance of these ceremonies in celebrating the generosity of patrons. Student Carolina Brandão stated that the scholarship "greatly improved my experience here at Técnico over the years," considering the Institute a "second home".
Rosa Miranda, a retired professor and the scholarship's patron, expressed satisfaction with Carolina Brandão's performance, considering it a "spot-on choice" and wishing her "the greatest professional and personal success".
Paulo Fernandes, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, emphasized the support as "material comfort and extra motivation," comparing the initiative to "many drops of water that make an ocean".
Maria de Fátima Reis Vaz, Vice-President of the Department, and Luís Reis, a Técnico professor, underscored the importance of Carolina seizing the opportunities offered by the Institute and the value of the act of giving.
The José Miranda Study Scholarship is part of a group of over 20 scholarships supported by patrons for Bachelor's and Master's students at Técnico. The protocol was signed in March 2022 and is specifically intended for students of the Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
