The Mobile Unit of the Portuguese League Against Cancer is in Algueirão-Mem Martins, next to the Health Center, conducting breast cancer screenings for invited women from the Sintra municipality.

The Mobile Unit of the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC-NRS) is stationed at Rua das Eiras, 50, in Algueirão-Mem Martins, next to the local Health Center. The initiative, part of Pink October, runs until January 2027, allowing women residing in Sintra, aged between 45 and 74, who have received an invitation, to undergo screening mammograms.
The screening is intended for women who meet specific criteria: no breast symptoms, no breast implants, no history of mastectomy or breast cancer, and not pregnant or breastfeeding. Prevention is thus brought closer to the residents of the Sintra municipality.
The mobile unit travels to parishes and primary healthcare units of the ULS Amadora/Sintra, with the support of the ULS Family teams and the Municipality of Sintra, to facilitate access to prevention.
Francisca Pulido Valente, a specialist in Public Health and a member of the ULS Amadora/Sintra Screening Team, explains the importance of organized, population-based screening programs. "Screening is aimed at a population without signs or symptoms and seeks to identify individuals more likely to have an unrecognized disease," she states. The specialist adds that a suspicious screening result is not a cancer diagnosis and requires confirmation. "An organized population-based program is, therefore, much more than 'performing an examination'," she concludes, detailing the process which includes systematic invitations, quality examinations, result communication, and ensuring investigation of suspicious findings.
The Mobile Unit is located near the Health Center, at Rua das Eiras, 50, 2725-297 Algueirão-Mem Martins.
