The Chairman of the Board of SPMS, Luís Goes Pinheiro, presented the entity's vision for health information systems during the Public Health Summit event, which took place on September 23rd at the Reitoria da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. The gathering's central theme was “Re:Defining the Future”.
In the plenary session focused on “Digital Transformation with Impact on Public Health”, Goes Pinheiro highlighted the strategic importance of consolidating health databases, implementing the Unique Electronic Health Record, and developing interoperability solutions.
The presentation also addressed Portugal's positioning within the European digital landscape, emphasizing national participation in international initiatives for digital health cooperation and innovation. SPMS currently leads the Global Digital Health Partnership.
The panel included specialists from various sectors, such as Cristina Vaz Almeida (Portuguese Society for Health Literacy), Mariana Dias (Value for Health CoLAB), and Miguel Lopes (Local Health Unit of Alto Alentejo). The moderation was led by Vânia Lima, from Onya Health.
The debate focused on the impact of digitalization, interoperability, and data management in creating more efficient, sustainable, and people-centered health systems. It explored how digital transformation can improve care quality, support decision-making, and enhance the sector's resilience.
The Public Health Summit is an annual initiative organized by the Student Association of the National School of Public Health of NOVA University of Lisbon (AEENSP-NOVA).
