The approval of these two new supramunicipal structures was the highlight of the Lisbon Metropolitan Council meeting, held at the Convent of Jesus in Setúbal. The Metropolitan Network for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, named Unicorn Factory A.M.L., will be officially presented in early November.
The Metropolitan Security Council will be the first supramunicipal structure of its kind in the country, aiming to improve coordination between municipalities and security forces. It will include representatives from all AML municipalities, the Public Security Police, the National Republican Guard, municipal police structures, and Civil Protection. According to Carlos Moedas, president of the Lisbon Metropolitan Council, "security problems in the Lisbon metropolitan area have no borders, they are clearly metropolitan".
This new structure will enable joint analysis and approaches to security issues across the entire region, facilitating the dissemination of good practices. The Metropolitan Network for Entrepreneurship and Innovation aims to multiply the knowledge and experience of the Lisbon Unicorn Factory, transforming it into an inclusive metropolitan project. The focus on innovation and technology companies seeks to leverage entrepreneurship and create more qualified employment in the region.
At the meeting, the regulations for the Metropolitan Social Network Platform and the amendment to the protocol for implementing the integrated video surveillance system for forest fire prevention were also decided.
Following the meeting, AML mayors met with the Secretary of State for Mobility, Cristina Pinto Dias, to discuss mobility and public transport in the region. The general lines of the Government's transport policy were presented, and the need to strengthen public transport services to meet increasing demand was highlighted.
