The 38th Música em São Roque Season, a historic Lisbon event, returns between November 11th and 22nd with concerts at the Church of São Roque, Convent of São Pedro de Alcântara, and for the first time, at the National Music Museum in Mafra.

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa is promoting the 38th edition of the Música em São Roque Season (TMSR), one of the capital's oldest music seasons. The event will run from November 11th to 22nd, with concerts at the Church of São Roque and the Convent of São Pedro de Alcântara, both in Lisbon, and for the first time, extends to the National Music Museum in the National Palace of Mafra, through an unprecedented partnership.
This edition is dedicated to the recent classification of the Collection of the Chapel of São João Batista, located in the Church of São Roque, as a National Treasure. The event evokes the artistic legacy of D. João V as a patron and promoter of music and the arts in Portugal.
The 2026 program focuses on music from the Joanine period and the artistic relations between Lisbon and Rome, showcasing composers, works, and repertoires of particular historical relevance, rarely performed in concert.
The TMSR kicks off on November 11th with the Ensemble Bonne Corde and the program ‘Baixos Sumptuosos’ at the Church of São Roque. This is followed by two premieres on November 13th: ‘Canto dos espíritos sobre as águas’, by the Vocal Ensemble (absolute premiere), and ‘As novas revelações das encomendas de D. João V’, by the Ludovice Ensemble (modern premiere).
The following days will feature two more absolute premieres: ‘Carlos Seixas concertante’, by the Camerata Atlântica, and ‘Veni Creator Spiritus: três cenas do Espírito Santo’, by the Capella de S. Vicente. Also highlighted is the modern premiere of ‘De Roma para Lisboa, com esplendor’, by the Americantiga Ensemble & Nova Era Vocal Ensemble.
The program also includes ‘Acordeão barroco’, with Paulo Jorge Ferreira. The Season concludes on November 22nd with ‘Um concerto para Maria Bárbara’, by the Ensemble Bonne Corde, at the National Music Museum.
The 38th Música em São Roque Season offers free admission, on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to venue capacity. Tickets for the concert at the National Music Museum require reservation via the Museus e Monumentos de Portugal website.
