The Ministry of Agriculture and Sea has launched the first tender to support precision agriculture, with a total budget of 3 million euros, to accelerate the modernization and digital transition of the Portuguese agricultural sector. Applications are open until December 22nd.

The aim of this new support is to enhance the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of agricultural holdings, promoting a more efficient use of resources and preparing the sector for the challenges of climate change.
Recognized producer organizations from the cereal, oilseed, and protein crop, rice, and olive oil sectors, as well as associations and cooperatives in the wine and olive oil sectors, are eligible to apply. Of the total amount, 1.8 million euros are allocated to the cereal, oilseed, protein crop, and rice sectors, while the remaining 1.2 million euros are for the olive oil sector and wine and olive oil associations and cooperatives.
The application process has been simplified, with submissions made through the Balcão dos Fundos da Agricultura and interoperability with IFAP. Action plans can have a duration of up to three years and include activities such as productivity and prescription maps, georeferenced soil analyses, crop monitoring, and weather and pest warning systems.
The selection of applications will consider criteria such as the territorial scope of the applicant entity, the diversity of proposed actions, experience, the number of producers covered, and the qualification of human resources. Support will be provided as non-reimbursable grants, potentially covering up to 100% of eligible expenses, with a maximum limit of 150 thousand euros per application.
With this initiative, the PEPAC reinforces investment in innovation, digitalization, and knowledge transfer, aiming for wider adoption of precision agriculture and increased efficiency and sustainability of national agricultural production.
