The Government has opened applications for an extraordinary aid package of €1 million aimed at museums affected by the severe weather that hit the country earlier this year.

The ProMuseus Respostas de Emergência 2026 program, promoted by Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, E.P.E., aims to support museums within the Portuguese Network of Museums located in municipalities declared to be in a state of calamity. The goal is to fund repair, conservation, and restoration interventions to restore operational conditions.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, emphasized that an exhaustive damage assessment allowed for a tailored response to identified needs, contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage. "With this extraordinary support, the Government is creating the conditions for affected museums to return to normal operations," she stated.
Applications must be submitted through the ProMuseus Respostas de Emergência 2026 platform by October 23rd. Projects will be evaluated based on the risk of heritage loss, the severity of the damage, and the impact on institutional operations. The aid can cover up to 100% of eligible costs not covered by insurance, with a maximum of €100,000 per application.
