Between November 11 and December 12, Portugal marks the European Authors Day, an initiative by the European Commission celebrating books, authors, and reading, with the National Reading Plan acting as the Portuguese hub.

The initiative, created in 2023 under the motto #ReadForReal, promotes reading, contact with authors, and the sharing of literary experiences, aiming to bring people and cultures closer through books.
In 2026, the National Reading Plan takes on the role of the Portuguese hub for European Authors Day, challenging schools, libraries, bookstores, and other institutions to organize reading sessions for children and young people during the initiative's period.
Participation is open to all who wish to contribute to the promotion of books and reading. Events should be registered on the initiative's official platform, where information and support materials for their organization are also available.
DGLAB invites all institutions and communities to join this initiative, helping to reinforce reading habits and the contact of new generations with the diversity of European literature.
