The Belém Cultural Center (CCB) commemorated the memory of the 1755 Earthquake by illuminating its building purple on the night of November 1st, in an initiative aimed at preserving history and raising awareness about seismic prevention.

The initiative, promoted in partnership with Quake – Earthquake Museum, marks the 271st anniversary of the earthquake that profoundly marked the history of Lisbon and the urban configuration of the Belém area.
More than two and a half centuries after the event, scientific knowledge and technological advancements allow for a better understanding of seismic phenomena. The memory of the past is therefore fundamental for raising awareness and promoting a culture of prevention and safety.
By joining this movement, the CCB reaffirms its commitment to preserving collective memory and valuing knowledge, contributing to greater awareness of the importance of preparation and prevention of seismic risk.
