The initiative, organized by General and Family Medicine residents, aimed to promote cardiovascular health and was attended by USF users, family members, friends, and residents of the Benfica parish.
During the morning, participants underwent screenings for blood pressure, weight, height, and waist circumference, followed by an informative session on cardiovascular disease prevention and recommendations for healthier lifestyles. The activity concluded with a walk of approximately 30 minutes through the green space.
Aimed particularly at users of USF Benfica Jardim and their close networks, the walk was also open to the local community, reinforcing the role of primary healthcare in health promotion among the populations they serve.
The organization was supported by the Junta de Freguesia de Benfica, a partner of the initiative since its first edition.
World Heart Day, annually observed on September 29th, aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death worldwide. This initiative reflects the commitment of primary healthcare to prevention and community engagement, aligning with ULS Santa Maria's focus on more accessible and people-centered healthcare.
